The Talanco family has been cooking BBQ in South Texas for four generations, and Texas Pride Barbecue in Adkins is the current expression of that tradition. The restaurant sits on East Loop 1604 about 20 miles southeast of San Antonio, and San Antonio locals have been making that drive for decades. Texas Pride appeared in Season 3, Episode 13 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, “All Kinds of BBQ,” which aired July 7, 2008. Guy Fieri specifically recommended the smoked brisket, the number one seller, called even better with a side of baked beans. The restaurant describes itself as a “culinary compound,” which is accurate: beyond the BBQ, the property hosts live music Thursday through Saturday, a motorcycle repair and accessories shop, a tattoo shop, a recording studio, and seasonal cooking classes.

About Texas Pride BBQ
Texas Pride smokes over mesquite, which is the wood of choice in South and Central Texas and gives the meat a stronger, earthier flavor than the hickory and oak that dominate BBQ traditions in other regions. The menu covers brisket, baby back pork ribs, poultry, homemade sausage, and pulled pork butt alongside ten side options including giant baked potatoes, cheezy potatoes, mac and cheese, pinto beans, and coleslaw. The peach cobbler is the dessert that food critics have consistently praised. The Talanco family has been recognized repeatedly for the quality of the BBQ across the San Antonio market, and critics have chosen Texas Pride over the Alamo and River Walk as the best place to take out-of-town guests three years running.
What to Eat at Texas Pride BBQ
The Smoked Brisket is the number one seller and Guy’s specific recommendation: mesquite-smoked, sliced to order, served with the house BBQ sauce. The Baby Back Pork Ribs and Homemade Sausage are the other pit highlights worth ordering alongside. The Baked Beans are the side Guy called out specifically as the ideal brisket companion. The Peach Cobbler is the dessert that closes the meal properly.
For your own Texas BBQ session at home, Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Dry Rub Variety Pack covers brisket, ribs, and everything in between, and Guy on Fire is the outdoor cooking guide worth having next to the pit.
