Taste of Europe on West Pioneer Parkway in Arlington has been bringing the comfort food traditions of Central and Eastern Europe to the DFW area since it opened, serving pierogi, stuffed cabbage, schnitzel, and the slow-cooked dishes of the Polish and Eastern European table that are genuinely rare in a Texas market dominated by barbecue and Tex-Mex. It appeared in Season 14, Episode 12 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, “Dynamic Dishes,” which aired July 2, 2012. Guy Fieri found an Arlington kitchen producing authentic Eastern European cooking from scratch — house-made pierogi, slow-braised meats, and the baked goods that Central European grandmothers built their reputations on.

What to Eat
The Pierogi — boiled and pan-fried potato and cheese dumplings with sour cream and caramelized onions — are the Polish classic that earns Taste of Europe its DFW reputation. The Stuffed Cabbage (gołąbki) with spiced ground pork and rice wrapped in cabbage and braised in tomato sauce is the other centerpiece most regulars order every time. The Schnitzel — pork or veal pounded thin, breaded, and pan-fried to a golden crisp — is the German and Austrian classic done properly.
