Rino’s Place on Saratoga Street in Boston’s East Boston neighborhood has been one of the city’s most celebrated Italian restaurants since Rino Covino opened it, building a reputation around house-made pasta and the kind of red-sauce Italian cooking that East Boston’s Italian-American community has kept alive through generations of change in the neighborhood. What to Eat
The House-Made Pasta in rotating preparations is the reason Rino’s earns its lines — fresh-made daily, cooked to order, and served in portions that make the wait worthwhile. The Lobster Fra Diavolo over linguine is the showpiece dish that most first-timers are steered toward, a spicy tomato-based sauce with whole lobster that earns its place as the menu centerpiece. The Eggplant Parmigiana, layered properly and baked until the cheese is properly browned, is the vegetarian standout. The Veal Marsala with mushrooms and Marsala wine sauce is the classic Italian-American preparation done with the care a scratch kitchen provides.
