Comet Ping Pong – Washington, D.C.

Comet Ping Pong on Connecticut Avenue NW in Washington D.C.’s Cleveland Park neighborhood has been a neighborhood pizza and bar institution since James Alefantis opened it in 2006, serving wood-fired pizza, bar food, and the kind of unpretentious neighborhood restaurant experience that earns a political city’s off-duty crowd. It appeared in Season 9, Episode 9 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, “Farm to Table,” which aired June 28, 2010. Guy Fieri found a D.C. pizza kitchen doing things from scratch with locally sourced ingredients and the wood-fired approach that produces the blistered, charred crust the style demands.

What to Eat

The Wood-Fired Pizzas are the reason to go — locally sourced toppings on blistered, charred crust from the wood-fired oven. The rotating seasonal pizzas reflect what’s available from the D.C. region’s farms. The Salads and Bar Snacks are the appetizer options worth ordering while the pizza comes out of the oven. The Dessert Pizzas and rotating specials are worth checking the menu for. The actual ping pong tables are available for a game while you wait for your pizza, which is entirely the point of the concept. Find a Washington D.C. hotel on Booking.com.
