Becky’s Diner on Commercial Street in Portland has been a waterfront institution since Becky Rand opened it in 1991, serving the fishing community, the dock workers, the lobstermen, and everyone else who needs real food at 4:00 AM on a cold Maine morning. The diner opens at 4:00 AM seven days a week — not as a gimmick, but because the people who built Portland’s working waterfront needed somewhere to eat before the boats went out. It appeared in Season 10, Episode 10 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, “A Triple D Thanksgiving,” which aired November 15, 2010.
