Sarah Simington grew up watching her mother Sherri work the diner counter, which gave her both the love of breakfast food and the knowledge of how to execute it properly. In 1996 the two of them opened the Blue Moon Café in Baltimore’s historic Fells Point neighborhood, and Sarah’s rock and roll personality went into every corner of the place: the funky artwork, the mismatched furniture, the music, and a Captain Crunch French toast that has since become one of the most talked-about breakfast dishes in Maryland. The Blue Moon Café appeared in Season 3, Episode 10 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, “Comfort Food,” which aired June 15, 2008. Guy called the food the definition of comfort food. The Cap’n Crunch French toast alone is worth the visit.

About Blue Moon Café
Blue Moon sits in Fells Point, one of Baltimore’s most walkable and historically preserved neighborhoods, in a small café space that seats nine tables and three stools at the counter. By 8 AM on most mornings there is already a wait, and by 10 AM on weekends the line can stretch outside. The interior mixes country kitsch with kooky detail: old fireplace mantles covered in artsy knick-knacks, mismatched chairs and tables, and a personality in every corner that reflects Sarah’s approach to the whole enterprise. The café operates 24 hours on weekends, which makes it one of the city’s go-to stops after a night out in Fells Point.
Sarah was selected in 2011 to represent the America’s Chefs program, which took her on a culinary entertainment tour with the US Navy in the Mediterranean alongside Guy Fieri and Tyler Florence.
What to Eat at Blue Moon Café
The Cap’n Crunch French Toast is the signature: thick slices coated in crushed Cap’n Crunch cereal, griddled to golden, served with fresh fruit and homemade whipped cream. It is not actually on the printed menu but is always available — just ask. The Sweet Baby Jesus is the other DDD standout, a layered plate of fried hash browns, crabmeat, cheese, tomatoes, and eggs smothered in housemade hollandaise. The Crab, Tomato, and Cheddar Benedict brings a genuine Chesapeake Bay touch to a breakfast classic. The Cinnamon Rolls, baked in house and finished warm, have their own devoted following that has nothing to do with the French toast fame.
After conquering breakfast in Fells Point, Guy Fieri Food: Cookin’ It, Livin’ It, Lovin’ It brings the same comfort food creativity home, and Guy Fieri’s Kitchen Textiles outfit the morning cook properly.
