Munch’s Restaurant and Sundries on 6th Street South in St. Petersburg was a Sunshine City institution for decades, operating as a classic American diner and neighborhood pharmacy sundries counter in a setting that preserved the mid-century American combination of soda fountain, diner, and drugstore counter well into the 21st century. It appeared in Season 12, Episode 4 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, “Grillin’ and Smokin’,” which aired September 12, 2011. Guy Fieri found hand-formed burgers, egg creams, and diner food done the old way in one of the last authentic diner-pharmacy combos in Florida. Munch’s closed at the end of 2022 after generations of St. Petersburg community life.
