Polish Village Cafe on Yemans Avenue in Hamtramck has been serving authentic Polish home cooking since it opened in 1983, in a city that built its identity around the Polish immigrant community that settled there in the early 20th century and whose descendants still fill the dining room. The Pierogi — boiled and pan-fried potato and cheese dumplings with sour cream and caramelized onion — are the Polish classic that earns Polish Village its reputation. The Stuffed Cabbage (gołąbki), ground pork and rice wrapped in cabbage and braised in tomato sauce, is the other centerpiece that most regulars order every time.
