Eva’s European Sweets on Milton Avenue in Syracuse has been a city Polish bakery and deli institution since Eva Witkowiak opened it, serving the pierogi, kielbasa, baked goods, and Eastern European prepared foods that earn a Central New York community with deep Polish immigrant roots its most authentic connection to the culinary traditions of the old country. The Hand-Made Pierogi — boiled and pan-fried potato and cheese dumplings with sour cream and caramelized onion — are the Polish classic that earns Eva’s its Syracuse reputation and the item most first-timers order on the recommendation of anyone who has been before. The House-Made Kielbasa with sauerkraut and mustard is the Polish charcuterie centerpiece available fresh and smoked.
