Norton’s Pastrami and Deli on West Figueroa Street in downtown Santa Barbara has been a city deli institution since it opened, serving the hand-carved pastrami sandwiches, house-made soups, and the New York-style deli classics that are genuinely rare in a Southern California coastal city better known for avocado toast than a proper pastrami on rye. It appeared in Season 13, Episode 10 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, “Old Faves, New Craves,” which aired February 13, 2012. Guy Fieri found a Santa Barbara deli doing things from scratch with the old-school commitment that most California delis abandoned decades ago.

The Pastrami Sandwich — hand-carved house-cured pastrami piled on rye with mustard — is the signature that earns Norton’s its Santa Barbara deli reputation and the reason the DDD segment makes sense.
