Whale’s Rib on NE 2nd Street in Deerfield Beach has been a South Florida seafood institution since it opened in 1981, serving fresh fish the way a South Florida seafood shack should: simply, generously, and without pretension. It appeared in Season 7, Episode 5 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, “Only At This Joint,” which aired August 31, 2009. Guy Fieri found a family-run operation that has been doing fresh fish right for over 40 years in a setting that hasn’t needed to change because the food has always been the point.
