Traffic Jam and Snug on West Canfield Street in Detroit’s Cass Corridor had been one of the city’s most beloved neighborhood brewpubs and restaurants since it opened in 1965, serving scratch-made American and vegetarian food alongside house-brewed beers in a setting that made it one of Detroit’s most enduring food institutions before a devastating fire in 2022 forced its closure. It appeared in Season 13, Episode 1 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, “Seafood and Sammies,” which aired November 28, 2011. Guy Fieri found a Detroit brewpub doing things from scratch at a level that set it apart from standard bar kitchens — house-baked breads, vegetarian dishes with genuine creativity, and the house-brewed beers that made Traffic Jam one of Detroit’s pioneering craft breweries long before craft beer became a national movement. The restaurant closed following a fire in 2022.
