Germaine’s Luau on Oahu’s west coast has been running traditional Hawaiian luaus for visitors since 1972, combining the ali’i (royal) traditions of the imu — the underground oven where the kalua pig is cooked — with the ocean-front luau experience that gives visitors a genuine taste of Hawaiian cultural food traditions. It appeared in Season 8, Episode 11 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, “Triple D Goes Hawaiian,” which aired April 5, 2010. Guy Fieri found the kalua pig coming out of the imu after hours underground, alongside the full luau spread — poi, lomi salmon, haupia, and the traditional Hawaiian dishes that have anchored the luau tradition for generations.
