The Turner family opened Charlie’s originally in Worcester and built it around scratch cooking, big portions, and a menu that covers the full diner spectrum from breakfast through dinner. When the Worcester location closed, they moved the diner structure itself to Spencer rather than abandon the operation — which says everything about how seriously they take what they do. The expanded Spencer location added more seating while keeping the original diner car as the heart of the place.
Three generations of family behind the counter means the recipes that work have been passed down and refined rather than replaced by trends. The bourbon-marinated steak tips have been drawing people back for years. The Friday mac and cheese special has its own following. Weekend breakfast specials rotate and are consistently worth the drive.
What to Eat at Charlie’s Diner
The Bourbon-Marinated Steak Tips are the dish most people mention first — marinated, cooked right, and the kind of plate that makes a central Massachusetts Tuesday feel like a special occasion.
